The simple idea for your son’s rites of passage ceremony is: the ceremony and program should match your family’s values.

One of the main purposes for family’s investment of time and effort in creating their own custom rites of passage ceremony for boys is to further impart the family’s values in the boy.

Well, you already do that. Your son sees you day-in-day-out. So first of all you are modeling the same values you hold dear. The boy’s rites of passage ceremony or program is an extended opportunity to embed to a deeper level your family’s values.

Here is an example. As a Christian family we value God’s creation. So a part of our program could be classified as a rites of passage for Christian boys. In order to implant this family value deeper—a love for God’s creation—his Rites of Passage Quest involved being on the ocean. He learned to scuba dive and literally slept under the stars.

Again, the simple idea for your son’s rites of passage ceremony is: the ceremony and program should match your family’s values.

Peace,
