Boys' Rites of Passage

Our Sons' Futures

Life Changes and so do Blogs

Posted by Thomas on March 10, 2010

This blog may change. I’ve reached a milestone in my life and I’m striving for a certain level of success. Since this blog exists already I’m thinking of repurposing it. I gave an idea to my son to write regular posts to add his perspective to this overall theme of manhood–he hasn’t gotten back to me, so I’m feeling he isn’t too interested.

What I’m considering is a hybrid that will continue the discussion of responsible manhood along with achieving one’s success.

I’m working on a project, there is a lot to learn since I’m ignorant about the inner-workings of certain things. My ignorance was a Mixed Martial Artist (MMA) pro and it kicked my butt last night–bloody nose and all. Making me feel down.

But I’m rereading a very inspiring book, Success: One Day At A Time by John Maxwell and the following quote grounded me, I hope it grounds you too.

“Failure is really a matter of conceit. People don’t work hard because, in their conceit, they imagine they’ll succeed without ever making an effort. Most people believe that they’ll wake up some day and find themselves rich. Actually, they’ve got it half right, because eventually they do wake up.”
